Property: PopUp
Top  Previous  Next

Allows you to control the event which makes the menu visible.

In the default behavior the menu appears when the page opens.

If <PopUp> is set to "yes", the menu will not appear unless a custom event triggers its appearance at its specified position.

The event that triggers the appearance of the menu is the following Javascript function call: awmShowMenu('menuname');
where menuname is the name used to compile the menu. This name can be found inside the AllWebMenus HTML menu-linking section of the page.

Examples:
You can use this function inside any page element.

For example, to make a menu appear...

...when passing over a text link:
<a href="javascript:void(0);" onMouseOver="awmShowMenu('menuname');">Move the mouse over this link</a>

...when clicking on a text link:
<a href="javascript:void(0);" onMouseDown="awmShowMenu('menuname');">Click here for popup menu</a>

...when passing over an image:
<a href="javascript:void(0);" onMouseOver="awmShowMenu('menuname');"> <img src="..."></a>

...when clicking on an image:
<a href="javascript:void(0);" onMouseDown="awmShowMenu('menuname');"> <img src="..."></a>

Caution!
Some users misuse this feature by using many popup menus attached to many images in order to create a simple rollover menu. This is not the correct way to do this! It consumes resources by having multiple javascripts loaded on the page.
To create this effect you can simply create one menu, having all the images on its Main Menu and the rest of the information on the respective submenus. Please be careful not to overuse the PopUp feature combined with the multiple menus feature!

Additional parameters:
More flexibility is allowed, by using additional parameters inside the awmShowMenu() function:

awmShowMenu('menuname',X,Y);
the menu is forced to appear X and Y pixels away from the left and top edge respectively, overriding its internal <Horizontal Distance from Edge> and <Vertical Distance from Edge> values.

awmShowMenu('menuname',null,null,'framename');
the menu appears inside a different frame than the one that contains the trigger. In this case, the menu should not be linked to the page that contains the trigger but to the page where the menu will appear (inside the frame 'framename').

awmShowMenu('menuname',X,Y,'framename');
both previous cases combined.

Note:
The PopUp menu will disappear when the mouse moves away from the menu area. To keep the PopUp menu visible until the user clicks somewhere on the page, you need to set the <Sticky Submenus> property to "yes".

More on menu positioning:
If you need to position your menu relative to a page element instead of a window corner or edge, you should do the following:
1. do not use the X,Y parameters in the awmShowMenu() function, as they will be ignored.
2. insert the <span> element close to your page element, as described in the "How Do I, Position the menu relative to a page element" section.
